Grading every Real Madrid player’s World Cup campaign
By Dhun Poptani
Brazil National Team
Eder Militao – 7/10
Rodrygo – 8/10
Vinicius Junior – 8/10
The Brazilian national team featured Militao, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo from Real Madrid, and all three had roles to play for the Selecao.
Militao featured as a right-back regularly and only played one game as a centre-back for Brazilian the national team at the World Cup. He played a total of four out of the five games and his strong performances as a full-back gave Tite plenty of room to deploy his attractive style of football.
“Joga Bonito” is what we saw from Militao, especially when paired with the experienced duo of Thiago Silva and Marquinhos in the heart of defence. The Real Madrid defender went on to play a bigger role for the Selecao at the tournament than what some fans would have expected and he certainly proved to be up to the task.
Rodrygo had a solid stint at the 2022 World Cup as well. Neymar Jr’s injury in the initial stages of Brazil’s journey in the tournament meant he got more game time. He featured in all five of their games.
The forward was instrumental in helping Brazil secure all the wins that they needed in the group stage to qualify for the knockout rounds as table toppers. A noteworthy moment for Rodrygo was against the Switzerland national team, when he assisted Casemiro’s winner. He might have ended up missing a vital penalty against Croatia but judging by his performances at the World Cup, he will get many more chances in the future to win Selecao their sixth title.
Vinicius played four out of the five games for Brazil. In those matches, the winger scored one goal and assisted twice. And it looked like the Real Madrid star had already established himself as a major part of the Brazil national team only at 22 years of age.
To add on to that, the link-up between Vinicius and Rodrygo will be something that Brazilian fans can look forward to seeing for years to come.
All three players will return to Spain without any injuries, which is great news for Real Madrid. The second half of the season should see them improve their profiles further as they try to help the club reach its goals.
