Grading every Real Madrid player’s World Cup campaign
By Dhun Poptani
France National Team
Aurelien Tchouameni – 9/10
Eduardo Camavinga – 7/10
Tchouameni and Camavinga were a part of the French national team that reached the final of the World Cup and only lost on penalties.
To begin with, Camavinga played two out of the seven games for France. In those matches, he impressed though. The Real Madrid youngster featured in the final against Argentina by coming in as a left-back and helped turned the game around. In the group stage match against Tunisia, he was deployed as a left-back as well.
Didier Deschamps’ choice to deploy Camavinga as a left-back paid off. He used flair to stop the opposition and he could move forward when France had an opportunity. He did a good job of tracking back as well, with Tchouameni’s defensive midfield play helping him in doing so.
The chemistry between Tchouameni and Camavinga was brought into the limelight as we saw how they oscillated with the team when on the pitch together.
With limited time given to Camavinga but each minute fruitful, it would be fair to say that he had a solid tournament. It also showed that he could prosper as a multi-faceted player who can be deployed in midfield or on the flanks.
Tchouameni’s displays at the World Cup won the heart of the French fans and the Real Madrid fans. The player not only showed his prowess in the middle of the park but he also scored a superb goal against England in the quarter-finals.
Tchouameni is expected to remain a trusted player for the French national team for years to come, and this World Cup is expected to help him become a regular starter for Les Bleus.
Defensive, offensive and visionary, Tchouameni can cover the field well as the game takes place. His stint at the 2022 World Cup was pretty close to perfect even though the penalty miss in the final will sting him for the next four years to come at least.
To conclude the FIFA World Cup journey, each Real Madrid player seems to have come out of the tournament without any injury. Also, even if none of them might have won, there were several notable performances regardless.
To top it off, the rest Karim Benzema got after his early departure from the French national team should serve him well. The rest of the season will be exciting and hopefully filled with silverware. Hala Madrid!
