Real Madrid and Liverpool appear to have developed a bit of a rivalry in recent years. The two teams have contested two Champions League finals, with Los Blancos coming out on top on both occasions. They are set to meet in the last 16 of the competition this time around, which could turn out to be a close contest between two very good teams.
Off the pitch, Real Madrid and Liverpool seem to be competing with each other as well, and most rumours have placed them as the two favourites to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer.
Bellingham is arguably the most in demand talent in all of football right now, having shined for Borussia Dortmund for the last few years and starred for the England national team at the World Cup. And while there have been suggestions that Liverpool were in the lead to sign him in the summer, it looks like the Reds might actually be starting to turn their attention elsewhere.
As reported by MARCA, Liverpool seem to have changed their target for the midfield and their attention is now turning to Enzo Fernandez.
Liverpool decision hands massive transfer boost to Real Madrid
Fernandez is a top class talent as well and proved that at the World Cup, as he played a major role as Argentina went on to win the competition in Qatar. He was crowned the Young Player of the Tournament for his performances and is without doubt one of the most highly rated youngsters in the game right now.
Naturally, Real Madrid have been linked with Fernandez as well although Bellingham has always believed to have been their top priority.
And if Liverpool end up pushing to sign Fernandez then it could clear their path to signing Bellingham, who is believed to be interested in joining Real Madrid as well. Clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have been linked with the Englishman as well though and might have a say in the matter.
