There are a number of players in Real Madrid’s current squad whose contracts are set to run out in the summer. Some of them are expected to be on their way out of Santiago Bernabeu, while in the case of a few others, one would think that the club will end up agreeing an extension.

In the case of some, the future is unclear though. And one such player is Marco Asensio. The Spaniard seemed destined to leave not too long ago but his role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side has grown since then. While he is not a regular starter, he is featuring much more often than he was early on in the campaign.

In the summer, Asensio was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and several others, and many clubs are expected to be interested in the Spaniard’s signature in case he did leave Santiago Bernabeu anytime soon. But now, the possibility of him extending his contract cannot be ruled out either.

And according to the information of Edu Aguirre on El Chiringuito TV, Ancelotti and his staff are very happy with Asensio.

Asensio was expected to develop into a star at Real Madrid when he broke through into the first-team picture at the club.

His development has not gone quite as well as expected though and so many years later, he still finds himself as an impact substitute at best.

But at the same time, one cannot argue with the fact that he still has a role to play in this team and can make a solid impact off the bench. Thus, the best step for all parties involved might be to extend Asensio’s contract and keep him at the club.
