Real Madrid have been linked with some of the most highly-rated young talents in world football in recent times. Another club who have been right there in the mix with them though is Chelsea. Both clubs were believed to be in the race for Endrick, which Los Blancos won, and they seem to be after several other common transfer targets.

One of them appears to be Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine midfielder had an incredible World Cup campaign.

He was the engine in the middle of the park for Argentina as they lifted the World Cup and Fernandez was named the Young Player of the Tournament for his brilliant performances. Unsurprisingly, he has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world in the past several weeks, including Real Madrid and Chelsea.

As reported by the Daily Record, an offer in excess of the €127 million that Benfica received for the transfer of Joao Felix in 2019, has been proposed by Chelsea’s new owners for Fernandez.

It is believed that Fernandez’s current release clause stands at around €120 million but it looks like Chelsea are ready to pay more than that, in order to make sure that the payment structure suits them better. They are believed to have done a similar deal with RB Leipzig for Christopher Nkunku.

Let’s see if Chelsea are able to get a deal for Fernandez over the line or not, and one has to wonder if the Argentine is worth a record-breaking transfer fee even though he had a tremendous World Cup campaign. The Blues’ own record is the €115 million fee they shelled out to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

Fernandez has always believed to have been the alternative target to Jude Bellingham for Real Madrid though and the European champions seem to be moving in the right direction when it comes to getting a deal done for the Englishman. So even if Chelsea signed the Argentine, it might not have a big impact on Los Blancos’ plans.
