Carlo Ancelotti makes surprise Real Madrid squad decision

Real Madrid will make their return to action after the World Cup break when they travel away from home to take on Real Valladolid. It goes without saying that it will be a very important game for Los Blancos. They have fallen behind in the La Liga title race, with Barcelona in the lead by two points.

That was not expected at point of time, when Real Madrid were absolutely cruising and had earned themselves a comfortable 3-1 win over Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season.

Things went south in the weeks leading up to the World Cup break though. One weakness that this current Real Madrid side does have is their lack of depth and it looked like fatigue and injuries had started to take its toll on them.

Thus, Real Madrid will be hoping to bounce back when they return to action and in many ways, the World Cup break came at the right time for them because they were struggling. And Carlo Ancelotti has already dropped a surprise, leading up to the match against Real Valladolid.

Luka Modric, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have all been included in the squad that will take on Real Valladolid.

The expectation was that all three would be given a rest on the day due to their deep runs at the World Cup. Modric managed to make it to the semi finals of the competition with Croatia and came home with a third place medal.

On the other hand, France were in the final and lost on penalties to Argentina. Tchouameni and Camavinga were both involved on the day.

Thus, rumours had suggested that all three would be absent from the squad to face Real Valladolid. Ancelotti has included all three on it though. It would be a surprise, if they end up starting as well. But then, perhaps it all comes back to the afformentioned lack of depth.
