There are quite a few players on the current Real Madrid squad whose contracts are set to run out next summer. Some of them have very small roles in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and them leaving would not really hurt the club. On the other hand, there are others who do feature a lot and Los Blancos will surely be hoping that they remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

One man who seems to be stuck somewhere in the middle is Marco Asensio. It is clear that the Spaniard is not a starter for the club and not too long ago, he was expected to leave.

But things changed as the season progressed, and while he is still not a regular starter for Real Madrid, his role has certainly grown and he is featuring more regularly.

But as reported by Defensa Central (via SPORT), Manchester United might be willing to offer Asensio a salary increase. The Red Devils were aiming to sign Cody Gakpo but he has joined Liverpool, and that has forced them to look elsewhere. And the Real Madrid star is on the list of players they will try to sign once the winter transfer window opens.

It is very clear that Asensio is still a part of Ancelotti’s plans but at the same time, his contract runs out at the end of this season and he is yet to agree an extension.

Thus, it would make sense for Real Madrid to let Asensio leave for a token transfer fee in January rather than to see him walkout for nothing some months later.

Let’s see what the future holds for Asensio. The best case scenario would involve him extending his contract and staying at Real Madrid. He is a great impact substitute and has already proven himself in La Liga.
