Real Madrid got the better of Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League last season, in what was a thrilling tie between two of the best sides in Europe right now. And while Los Blancos ultimately went on to win their fifth title in nine seasons, Pep Guardiola’s side still continue to search for their maiden triumph in the competition.

As a result, Manchester City have continued to strengthen their squad, bringing in Erling Haaland this summer, and it remains to be seen if that will be enough to do that trick in Europe. It must be pointed out that they have fallen behind in the Premier League title race to Arsenal.

And it looks like Manchester City have their eyes on one of Real Madrid’s starters as well, who played a key part in their Champions League triumph last season.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Ferland Mendy is the subject of interest from Manchester City and the Premier League champions will look to sign the Frenchman in the summer transfer window.

Mendy’s Real Madrid future is rumoured to be up in the air at this point of time. Although, he has remained a starter for the club, it is believed that a lot of people are not convinced that he is the long-term solution there.

It is pretty clear that Mendy is not the best when it comes to the attacking phase of the game. And he has struggled at times at the back this season as well. His injury history is a major concern as well.

Of course, if Real Madrid are to let Mendy go, they will need to bring in reinforcements first. Not only is the Frenchman the starter, but the club do not have a real back up option for him either, with David Alaba filling in at left-back.
