Following their takeover last season, Newcastle United were always expected to turn their fortunes around and become one of the big teams in the Premier League. Not many could have expected it to happen this quickly though and even more impressively, they have not actually splashed out like most people had expected them to. Of course, the profile of their targets has gone up a level and it looks like they have set their eyes on a Real Madrid player.

Despite being a regular starter for Real Madrid for some time now, there is confusion around the long-term future of Ferland Mendy at the club.

There are obvious weaknesses in Mendy’s game, especially going forward and rumours suggest that a lot of people do not see him as the long-term left-back for Real Madrid, with the club being linked with players like Alphonso Davies and Malo Gusto.

On the other hand, as reported by Foot Mercato, Newcastle United is very interested in Mendy and has even made a very big offer to the Frenchman.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mendy at Santiago Bernabeu. If Newcastle United want to sign him, then they will have to agree a transfer fee with Real Madrid, because the Frenchman has a contract that runs till the summer of 2025.

While Mendy is the starter for Real Madrid right now, the club do not really have a back up option for the Frenchman, with David Alaba covering for him when the situation calls for it even though the Austrian is the starting centre-back for Los Blancos as well.

The club have recently been linked with two former Real Madrid youth stars in Fran Garcia of Rayo Vallecano and Miguel Gutierrez of Girona, which does suggest that Los Blancos are looking to soar up their options there.
