Real Madrid made a triumphant return to action after the World Cup break as they defeated Real Valladolid by a 2-0 scoreline away from home. While the performance left a lot to be desired, the result proved to be a vital one for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Barcelona could only manage a 1-1 draw against Espanyol at the weekend, meaning that both teams now sit on the same number of points, even though Xavi’s side are ahead on goal difference.

Real Madrid must be delighted to get back on level terms so soon, after a poor run of form before the World Cup break had seen them fall two points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race even though Los Blancos had won the first El Clasico of the campaign by a comfortable 3-1 margin.

Their next test will come in the Copa del Rey, a competition that Real Madrid do not have a great record in, as they take on Cacereno.

It is safe to say that Real Madrid are heavy favourites going into the game but at the same time, they cannot take the opposition lightly and must be aware of the dangers of a potential cup upset. And heading into the game, it appears that three players trained away from the team.

As reported by Real Madrid’s official website, Dani Carvajal and Thibaut Courtois worked inside the facility, while Mariano Diaz worked out on the grass individually.

It is unclear whether they are suffering from any injury related issues or are simply going to get the day off when Real Madrid face Cacereno in the Copa del Rey next up.

Whatever may be the case, one would expect Los Blancos to get a victory in the upcoming game and march into the last 16 of the competition.
