Manchester United shocked the football world in the summer when they signed Casemiro from Real Madrid for a transfer package believed to be worth around £70 million including add-ons. The Red Devils have signed other players from the club in recent years as well, namely Raphael Varane and Angel Di Maria. And it looks like they could soon add another name to that list.

Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid seems uncertain. While his role has grown over the course of the season, he still remains an impact substitute at best. And with his contract running out next summer, it is very possible that the club could consider letting him go in January itself, rather than risk seeing him walk out as a free agent some months later.

Recently, as reported by SPORT, Manchester United want to sign Asensio in January. The Red Devils were targeting Cody Gakpo but he has joined Liverpool.

On the other hand, as reported by AS, Asensio is one of the five players Real Madrid are open to winter offers for.

Thus, it is very possible that the stars could align and Asensio could end up at Manchester United this month.

At the same time though, some other rumours have suggested that Carlo Ancelotti and the other coaches are really happy with Asensio.

Thus, it is safe to say that the situation is interesting. It remains to be seen how things will play out over the coming weeks.

The best case scenario for Real Madrid might be Asensio extending his contract with the club. At the end of the day, the Spaniard is proven at La Liga level and is someone who has proven that he can make an impact coming off the bench.
