The future of Toni Kroos is a topic of discussion amongst Real Madrid fans at this point of time. The German midfield maestro is still performing at a very high level for Los Blancos and is a nailed on starter. But rumours have suggested that he is contemplating retiring at the end of this current campaign, when his contract runs out.
Now, Kroos is still just 32 years of age and Real Madrid are believed to be keen on extending his contract. But at the same time, he is already retired from international football and it is clear that he is not the type of player who wants to hang around for too long.
Thus, it will be interesting to see what he decides to do next but it is pretty clear that Carlo Ancelotti would want to see his star midfielder continue on for the time being.
As reported by MARCA, Ancelotti said regarding Kroos’ situation:
"“I think that Kroos is quite clear about it and he will be clear about it next month. As a fan it is impossible to think that he is going to stop. He has said that he wants to finish his career at Madrid and hopefully he can continue”"
Real Madrid boss comments on Kroos’ future plans amid retirement rumours
Kroos is playing at a very high level now. One could even argue that he is playing some of the best football of his career, as he has added more of a defensive side to his game following the departure of Casemiro.
Thus, it is pretty clear that he can easily continue playing for a few more years if he wanted to. Now, it remains to be seen what he desires.
No matter what Kroos eventually decides to do, he is a Real Madrid legend and the fans will support his decision.
Considering how things have been playing out in this saga though, it does feel like Kroos will end up signing an extension and stay on. But then, nothing is certain, and let’s see how things play out over the next month or so.
