Real Madrid have been linked with a long list of players over the past several months as it looks like the club might be preparing for a big summer transfer window. One of the names believed to be near the top of their wishlist is that of Josko Gvardiol, who was one of the standout performers at the World Cup. But he does not seem to be the only centre-back who the club are interested in.

Another player who is being linked with a move to Real Madrid is current Liverpool centre-back, Ibrahima Konate.

Konate was a part of the French national team squad at the World Cup and he was able to impress, whenever he was on the pitch, as Les Bleus reached the final before losing at the hands of Argentina.

As reported by Media Foot (via The Hard Tackle), Carlo Ancelotti is a keen admirer of Konate and the Real Madrid manager wants Los Blancos to sign the 23-year-old defender from Liverpool.

While Konate was certainly impressive at the World Cup, the link with Real Madrid is certainly a bit confusing.

He has not been able to establish himself as a nailed on starter ever since arriving at Liverpool from RB Leipzig. And on top of that, the 23-year-old already has an extensive injury history as well.

As a result, it would be risky on the part of any club to make a move for Konate at this point of time despite his undeniable talent.

Thus, it is safe to say that Real Madrid would be much better placed if they were able to sign RB Leipzig’s Gvardiol in the summer instead, who does seem to be the bigger talent at this point of time, as well as the safer signing.
