Rafael Leao has been one of the most impressive forwards in world football over the last few years. He was the Serie A MVP when AC Milan lifted the league title last season after a 11-year wait. And he has continued to grow from strength to strength since then, even impressing for the Portugal national team at the World Cup despite not getting a proper chance. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Real Madrid are one of the teams being linked with him.

AC Milan are believed to rate Leao at a transfer fee north of €100 million though and as a result, rumours have suggested that Real Madrid would only consider a move for the Portuguese star if his contract ran out and he was available as a free agent.

That is a very real possibility though, as Leao’s current deal with AC Milan runs out in the summer of 2024 and there is only 18 months left on it.

But as reported by GianlucaDiMarzio.com, confidence is growing when it comes to Leao’s contract with AC Milan raising their proposal to a total €7 million per year.

Real Madrid suffer Leao transfer blow as he could extend deal with AC Milan

It remains to be seen how things transpire but if Leao does end up extending his deal with AC Milan, then it is hard to see Real Madrid make a mega money move for him anytime in the near future.

At the same time though, never say never. If Leao continues to improve and becomes one of the best in the world, then Real Madrid could try to sign him. While the club have significantly reduced their Galactico style signings in recent years, they still have made big money moves for Aurelien Tchouameni and Endrick recently.

Also, their big target for next summer is Jude Bellingham, who is not expected to be available for a transfer fee lower than €130 million, especially if Chelsea end up shelling out a similar figure to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
