Real Madrid were put in a terrible position last year when long-term transfer target, Kylian Mbappe, ended up extending his contract with PSG, after it had looked like he was destined to join Los Blancos on a free transfer in the summer. And it is pretty clear that the club will not be keen to see a repeat of that situation ever again.

With Mbappe now seemingly off their radar, Real Madrid’s next priority target appears to be Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, another prodigious talent.

At 19 years of age, Bellingham is already one of the best midfielders in the world. He is a leader as well, having captained Borussia Dortmund, and has proven his quality in the Bundesliga, Champions League and even at the World Cup with the England national team.

All things considered, it feels like Bellingham is a can’t miss talent and would be considered as a major signing for any club in the world right now.

Real Madrid ready for talks over transfer target this week

As tweeted out by SER Deportivos, Real Madrid want to close the operation at the beginning of the year because they do not want a new ‘Mbappe case’ this summer. They will talk to Borussia Dortmund this week with the certainty that Bellingham wants to leave.

At this point of time, all signs point towards Real Madrid being the favourites to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

But if Chelsea end up signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, that might come as a worry for Real Madrid. The Argentine is believed to be a target for Liverpool as well and if they fail to sign him, they might go after Bellingham with an added focus as well. Thus, it might be best for Los Blancos to get this deal over the line as early as possible.
