Real Madrid have a number of very talented players in their squad, who are not getting enough playing time. Thus, the club might need to find a solution for them in the near future. Either they need to give them more minutes on the pitch, or they might have to let them go to a club where they will get more opportunities. One player seems keen to stay though, despite not featuring often.
Andriy Lunin has always been very highly rated as a goalkeeper. Unfortunately for him, he finds himself behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order at Real Madrid and the Belgian might very well be the best on the planet between the posts.
Thus, it is no surprise that Lunin has not got much playing time, unless Courtois has been unavailable through injury.
As reported by Relevo, Lunin wants to remain at Real Madrid for now and for that reason he has rejected the offers that have come to him, with one of them being from Ajax.
Real Madrid player has rejected offer from Ajax despite lack of playing time
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lunin has made 7 appearances this season across all competitions. Even that is more than expected, with Courtois dealing with some niggling injury issues in this campaign.
Thus, going somewhere like Ajax would have been a good step for Lunin in his development. But it appears that he wants to stay and prove himself at Real Madrid, which is exactly what you want to see from a youngster.
The fact that Ajax signed Geronimo Rulli this month just goes on to show that they were looking for a goalkeeper.
Now, it remains to be seen if Lunin sees any real improvement in his game time as the season progresses. His current deal with Real Madrid runs out in the summer of 2024.
