Real Madrid have struggled in recent times. Before the World Cup break, it had looked like injuries, fatigue and a lack of depth in multiple positions had caught up to them. Their struggle for results in the weeks leading up to the tournament saw Barcelona move ahead of them in the La Liga title race.
Hopes were that the squad would return refreshed after the World Cup and get back to their brilliant best. Unfortunately, that has not been the case over the past three games though.
They could have easily lost against Real Valladolid if not for Thibaut Courtois’ heroics in goal and Eduardo Camavinga’s game changing cameo off the bench. Again, the performance against Cacereno left a lot to be desired, as Real Madrid only managed a 1-0 win against lower league opposition. And then, things caught up to them away at Villarreal, as the hosts got a 2-1 win.
Thus, it is understandable that a lot of Real Madrid fans are worried about the team’s form. But as reported by AS, David Alaba told Bild:
"“We are a team that always believes in itself. It could be seen in the last season of the Champions League. Real Madrid has a very special character, we always believe in ourselves. In the end, we want to be at the top, that’s what we work hard for every day.”"
Alaba makes Real Madrid claim amid struggles
It is true that Real Madrid have struggled for form in recent times, but they are still level on points with Barcelona, although the Catalan giants do have a game in hand against Atletico Madrid.
No matter what happens in that game, Real Madrid would not be a million miles away. What is important though is that they rediscover their form once again as soon as possible.
They had looked almost unstoppable at the start of the campaign. And even though there had been underwhelming performances here and there, Carlo Ancelotti’s side always seemed to find a way to win, whether that be through a mazy run from Vinicius Junior or a long-ranger from Fede Valverde. Unfortunately, as the season has progressed, those moments of magic have dried up a bit and the magnifying glass is now on their displays.
