Just like Real Madrid, Barcelona needed penalties as well, but ultimately they were able to get past Real Betis to book their place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup. Thus, there is going to be an El Clasico, but with both Spanish giants looking out of form.

Real Madrid did not look convincing in the game against Valencia, and neither did Barcelona against Real Betis. Both of them have looked sluggish since their return to action after the World Cup break.

Thus, it is very hard to predict how the upcoming Spanish Super Cup final is going to look like. Real Madrid can only hope that they manage to bring their A-game on the day. One advantage that they do have going into it is the fact that they won the first El Clasico of the season quite convincingly and that should act as a confidence booster for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. On the other hand, Xavi appears to be looking to get a win back.

As reported by SPORT, Xavi said ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid:

"“I always want to play and beat the best. I think Real Madrid right now is one of the best.”"

Real Madrid have more worries than just Barcelona ahead of the Super Cup final. The club were already without David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni for three weeks, and now, it looks like Lucas Vazquez is going to be out for a month-and-a-half as well.

Vazquez got injured in the semi-final against Valencia. And while he was not starting regularly for Real Madrid, he was still the cover option to Dani Carvajal and a good versatile and experienced option to have around.

Also, one cannot overlook the problems that Ancelotti’s side have had in putting the ball in the back of the net in recent times, only scoring two goals from open play since their return from the World Cup break. Just for comparison, three have come from the penalty spot.
