Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to face off against each other in the Spanish Super Cup final. Of course, it is not the only title that the two giants could end up competing for. They are the top two in La Liga as well, with Xavi’s side leading by three points at this point of time, while both are still in the Copa del Rey as well.

There does not seem to be a lot between the two teams this season. While Real Madrid seem to have a better core, Barcelona have greater depth all over the pitch. It is worth pointing out that Los Blancos won the first El Clasico of the campaign quite comfortably, by a 3-1 scoreline at Santiago Bernabeu.

It is not only on the pitch that the two Spanish giants are competing with each other though. It appears to be on the transfer market as well.

One player that both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with in recent times is Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich. But it looks like it is the Catalan giants who have an advantage in the race for the Frenchman’s signature.

As reported by BILD (via MARCA), Pavard’s desire is to play at the Camp Nou and Barcelona would welcome the signing.

It is not hard to understand why a club like Real Madrid might be interested in Pavard. The Frenchman is capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back with equal ease. And with Los Blancos’ defence struggling this season, they could definitely do with some reinforcements there.

His contract with Bayern Munich is also believed to be running out in the summer of 2024, which means that he could be available for a bargain transfer fee at the end of this season.

But it looks like Real Madrid might need to turn their eyes elsewhere, with Barcelona potentially being Pavard’s preferred destination.
