One of the biggest worries that Real Madrid have at this point of time is the contract situation of a number of their stars. Several of the deals are set to run out next summer. And while one would expect someone like Mariano Diaz to leave, after barely featuring in recent times, there are many others who still have key roles in the team.
The most interesting is the situation of Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos, the three all-time greats of Real Madrid.
While it remains to be seen what the future holds for Modric and Kroos, it appears that the club have gotten a deal over the line with Benzema and he will extend his stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
As reported by Foot Mercato, everything is already completed between the different parties and the formalization of the news should arrive very quickly. Benzema will extend his contract at Real Madrid until the summer of 2024.
Real Madrid have already agreed contract extension with the Frenchman
It is safe to say that Benzema has hit his peak late on in his career and is the reigning Ballon d’Or holder, after a remarkable 2021/22 campaign, in which he led Real Madrid to a Champions League and La Liga double.
It was one of the greatest individual seasons in history. This time around, Benzema has struggled to match those heights though, as he has struggled with fitness problems and had to deal with one injury after another.
That has had an effect on his form as well, as he has failed to get things going. Despite that, Benzema’s record is pretty decent. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 11 goals in 16 appearances this season.
One can only hope for Benzema to find his best form moving forward, as that will be very vital if Real Madrid are to achieve success this season.
