One of the most urgent issues facing Real Madrid right now is the number of contracts which are running out at the end of the current season. This includes the deals of several key players, who are still playing regular minutes for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Thus, it is safe to say that Los Blancos would be hoping to agree a few renewals over the coming months.

One of the players whose future at the club has seemed to be up in the air recently is Nacho Fernandez. The Spaniard has never played for another club during the course of his career and is the only true ‘One Club Man’ in the current squad.

That status has seemed in danger in recent times though. Nacho has never really been a nailed on starter for Real Madrid but he has been the first-choice cover option for the club. He has seen himself slip further down the pecking order this season, following the arrival of Antonio Rudiger in the summer.

This has led to a lot of debate, with Rudiger’s performances in the Royal White jersey coming under heavy criticism. On the other hand, there had been suggestions that Nacho was considering leaving when his contract ran out at the end of the season, with clubs like Bayern Munich, Juventus, AS Roma and several others being linked with him. But now, the situation seems to have taken a sudden and unexpected turn.

Real Madrid agree unexpected contract renewal

As reported by AS, Nacho has agreed to renew for another year. The renewal for one more year is agreed in word, waiting for the end of the season to make it effective.

Of course, Nacho staying would be a boost for Real Madrid. He has come through the youth ranks at the club and has a lot of experience.

On top of that, his versatility is important to this side as well, which lacks depth in several positions. Nacho can play at centre-back and at right-back with equal ease.
