Real Madrid being linked with a long list of players in recent times should come as a surprise to no one considering how many positions they appear to be lacking depth in. There just appears to be a number of holes in the current squad, for which Los Blancos do not have any long-term answers at this point of time.

Things will need to change sooner or later though, as we are already seeing this team struggle with fatigue and injuries. While the club are not expected to make any additions this January, the next summer transfer window has to be a different picture altogether.

Right-back is one such area in need of reinforcements as soon as possible. Dani Carvajal remains the starter there but his performances in recent times have not been up to the mark. The Spaniard is 31 years of age and struggled with fitness issues as well. Lucas Vazquez is the back up option in the position.

Thus, the club’s recent links with Real Valladolid wonderkid, Ivan Fresneda, were encouraging. But now, it looks like Arsenal are taking major steps in their attempts to sign him.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have started talks to explore the signing of Fresneda from Real Valladolid. Discussions are taking place on clubs and agent side.

There are other clubs believed to be interested in signing Fresneda as well, as the 18-year-old has been very impressive in recent times.

He has been successful in nailing down his spot in Real Valladolid’s starting XI already. And now, it looks like a move away from the club in January is a very real possibility.

So, it looks like Real Madrid are going to miss out on the chance to sign Fresneda. It is believed that a transfer fee around €15 million could be enough to get a deal done.
