Real Madrid have a major issue with squad depth at this point of time. But at the same time, they are not expected to make any additions to their roster in the ongoing January transfer window. That is a problem in itself. And as a result, it is hard not to raise eyebrows when one of their players is being linked with a move away amidst all this.
Of course, an exit would be understandable for players like Mariano Diaz or Alvaro Odriozola, who have barely featured this season. But not for someone like Eduardo Camavinga, who remains an important contributor to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, even if not a regular starter.
Yet, rumours broke out recently that both Arsenal and Chelsea were interested in taking the French midfielder on loan till the end of the season.
Naturally, Real Madrid fans were left worried. But it does not look like there is any chance of the move happening. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Camavinga’s agent, Joshua Barnett, said about the Arsenal and Chelsea loan links:
"“There’s no truth. Of course every club in the world would want him, but he’s very happy in Real Madrid and Real Madrid are very happy with Camavinga.”"
Camavinga’s agent comments on rumours linking the midfielder with a move away from Real Madrid
Thus, it looks like Camavinga is set to remain at Real Madrid and a loan move to either Arsenal or Chelsea, is not on the cards for the French international.
Now, admittedly, he is not a regular starter for Los Blancos at this point of time. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Camavinga has made 26 appearances and featured for just 1041 minutes of football this season till now.
Out of those 26 appearances, only 11 have been starts. And on numerous occasions, he has been subbed off early as well.
Thus, there is certainly room for improvement in terms of his involvement and yet, one cannot overlook the fact that he has grown in importance to this team as the season has progressed.
Camavinga has been one of Real Madrid’s better players in recent weeks and is expected to get more playing time moving forward, with those around him struggling for form.
