After a record-breaking summer transfer window, Chelsea have continued to splash out in January as well, as the Blues carry on with the massive rebuild of their squad. Graham Potter’s side have already brought in names like Benoit Badiashile, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix, on loan till the end of the season. But they do not seem to be satisfied and appear to have turned their attention towards a Real Madrid target.

Right-back is a position of need for Real Madrid, with Dani Carvajal struggling for form and fitness. Lucas Vazquez is out injured as well and not a long-term solution himself.

While the club are not likely to make any signings in January, right-back is an area where they are expected to strengthen in the summer. And one player they have been linked with is Lyon wonderkid, Malo Gusto.

But as reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea are lining up a bid for Gusto before the January transfer window closes.

It remains to be seen what the future holds, but Chelsea have gotten deals over the line with efficiency in the ongoing January transfer window. Thus, it would come as no surprise if they end up signing Gusto as well.

The 19-year-old is a supreme talent for sure, having established himself as a starter for a club like Lyon as a teenager.

Gusto’s current deal with the French side is believed to run till the summer of 2024. Thus, if a significant offer came in, Lyon might have a tough time turning it down.

This is bad news for Real Madrid, especially as another one of their right-back targets, Ivan Fresneda, is rumoured to be closing in on a move to Arsenal this month. Thus, one has to wonder the long-term future of the position at Santiago Bernabeu.
