Real Madrid’s transfer worries are starting to mount, due to the fact that the club do not seem ready to make any signings in the January window. Ivan Fresneda is believed to be closing in on a move to Arsenal while Malo Gusto is wanted by Chelsea. And now, another one of Los Blancos’ targets could be on the move, if the European champions decide to sit still.

The full-back areas have been a particular concern for Real Madrid in recent times and they need to strengthen there as soon as possible.

One of the players that they have been linked with is Fran Garcia, who came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but left after making only one senior appearance for the club. He has found success at Rayo Vallecano though and is one of the most highly-rated left-backs in La Liga right now.

As reported by Relevo, Bayer Leverkusen want to pay the €10 million release clause of Garcia immediately.

Real Madrid have a 50% sell-on clause in Garcia’s deal as well as the right of first refusal. Thus, the club have been handed a decision to make.

They can shell out a €5 million transfer fee in order to sign Garcia now, or they will receive the same figure from his transfer but lose out on the player if Bayer Leverkusen end up meeting his release clause and signing him.

Thus, the ball is pretty much in Real Madrid’s court and it remains to be seen what decision Los Blancos end up taking.

The stance has always been that Real Madrid would not make any signings in January. Rumours had suggested that the club were planning to make a move for Garcia next summer. But it is quite clear that the situation has changed drastically with Bayer Leverkusen entering the race to sign the Spaniard.
