One of Real Madrid’s most important tasks over the coming months will be extending the contracts of several players whose current deals are running out. This is quite an extensive list as well, and many of them are contributing regularly to Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Now, let’s see how things transpire.

Of course, someone like Mariano Diaz is expected to leave after barely featuring in recent times. But on the other hand, there are those like Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric, who start on a consistent basis and are all-time legends of the club.

One player who was expected to be on his way out, just like Mariano, is Dani Ceballos. And yet, it looks like he has completely transformed his future at the club with some of his recent displays.

And as reported by Managing Madrid, sources said Real Madrid and Ceballos are closing in on a contract extension.

Thus, it looks like Real Madrid are on the verge of completing an unexpected U-turn regarding the future of Ceballos and handing him a contract extension.

Based on his recent performances, he deserves it as well. Ceballos is the main reason Real Madrid are still in the Copa del Rey. They were 2-0 down when he was brought on as a second half substitute against Villarreal.

The midfielder made an instant impact though, and ultimately scored the winner, as Los Blancos turned the game around and won 3-2 against Villarreal on the night.

Ceballos’ performance against Athletic Bilbao was very good as well, and while it might too early to give him a regular starting spot ahead of the likes of Kroos, Modric and Aurelien Tchouameni, it is clear that the 26-year-old Spaniard has a role to play in this team for sure.
