Real Madrid considering January move for Spanish defender
Real Madrid have seemed reluctant to make any signings in the January transfer window, despite the club’s recent struggles with form and fitness. It is believed that a quiet winter has always been the plan for Los Blancos. And yet, things can change very quickly in football, and the European champions have certainly been given something to think about lately.
Left-back is an area which has appeared to be a bit of a weakness for Real Madrid this season and more signings are expected there in the future.
One of the players that the club have been linked with recently is their own former youth star, Fran Garcia, who made a single appearance for the senior team before leaving for Rayo Vallecano. There, he has found much more success.
It seems his performances have caught the eye of clubs abroad as well. Recent rumours have suggested that Bayer Leverkusen, currently managed by Xabi Alonso, are considering activating Garcia’s release clause this month. As a result, Real Madrid have been given something to think about, as they were expected to make a move for the Spaniard in the summer.
Real Madrid considering January move for Spanish defender after Bayer Leverkusen interest
As reported by Cadena SER, Real Madrid is thinking about whether to sign Garcia before Bayer Leverkusen make an offer. If Los Blancos decide to sign him for €5 million, the club will loan him back to Rayo Vallecano until the end of the season and it will be in the summer when he joins Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
The one advantage that Real Madrid have in the race to sign Garcia is that they have the first right of refusal as well as a 50% sell-on clause.
That means that Los Blancos can sign Garcia for a €5 million transfer fee, half of what it would take Bayer Leverkusen to activate his release clause. Now, the big question is whether Real Madrid will decide to make the move this month or not.
