There are several players at Real Madrid who have struggled with injury problems this season. That has been an even bigger issue due to the fact that there are several positions where the club do not have a lot of squad depth. As a result, Carlo Ancelotti has had to field players out of their natural positions on a number of occasions already, and that could continue to be the case.

One area which has emerged as a particular worry for Ancelotti is left-back. Ferland Mendy is the only real option there, with David Alaba filling in when the situation calls for it.

Unfortunately, Alaba has been out of action for the past three weeks or so, and is believed to have suffered a relapse of his muscle injury, just when it had looked like he was closing in on a return. On the other hand, it appears that Mendy could be out for a long spell out of the side as well, after picking up an injury in the game against Atletico Madrid.

As reported by AS, Mendy will undergo tests this Saturday to know more precisely about the extent of his injury and if confirmed he could be out for about a month.

Mendy’s performances this season have come under a lot of criticism but in recent weeks, he has certainly looked like one of Real Madrid’s better defenders.

With the situation of Alaba unclear as well, Mendy’s absence could leave Ancelotti with a tough decision to make at left-back.

Nacho Fernandez and Alvaro Odriozola are capable of playing in the position, while Eduardo Camavinga has impressed at left-back in recent times too. If both Mendy and Alaba are out against Real Sociedad, expect one of those three to be starting.
