Real Madrid’s biggest problem this season has been their long list of injury issues. Several key players have had to spend significant time out on the sidelines. While the team must be commended for putting up positive results for the most part, the performances have been shaky. And their worries seem to be mounting.

David Alaba has been a key starter for the club, ever since he arrived in the summer of 2021. He has been one of the stalwarts at the back for Los Blancos, playing as a centre-back as well as a left-back.

Unfortunately, Alaba has been out of action for the past three weeks or so with a muscle injury. But it was looking like he was close to making his return, and was even named in the squad to face Atletico Madrid initially.

Thus, it came as a surprise when Alaba was withdrawn from the squad at the last minute and now, there seems to be some more bad news regarding his fitness situation.

Real Madrid starter injured again in massive worry for Carlo Ancelotti

As reported by Marca, Alaba has relapsed from the muscle injury that has kept him out of action lately.

The situation becomes even more complicated for Ancelotti now though, with Ferland Mendy also seemingly picking up an injury in the game against Atletico Madrid, which could keep him out for a while if serious.

As a result, both of Real Madrid’s options at left-back might not be available for selection moving forward, depending on how long they are out for.

The next game is a tough one against an in-form Real Sociedad side though. So it would be a massive blow if both Alaba and Mendy are out of that fixture. In that scenario, it would not be a surprise to see Nacho Fernandez fill in at left-back. But then, the Real Madrid veteran has already been plugging a hole at right-back, with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez both injured.

Could we see Nacho and Alvaro Odriozola in the two full-back positions against Real Sociedad this weekend?
