Football is a funny game. After the World Cup break, we have seen all-time greats like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos struggle for form a bit. Something that not many people would have expected. But on the other hand, there has been the rise of unexpected heroes as well, like Dani Ceballos, who seemed destined to leave Real Madrid in the summer up until a couple of weeks ago.
Ceballos had put in some decent performances throughout the season but he was not viewed by most people as an integral part of the squad. It is safe to say that things have changed though.
Ceballos put in an incredible display in the game against Villarreal after coming on as a substitute, as Real Madrid came from two goals down to win 3-2. And he has built on that performance in the games that have followed.
And now, rumours suggest that Real Madrid would like to extend his contract. Ceballos is not expected to have any lack of options if he did decide to leave, but it looks like he is eyeing an extension himself.
Real Madrid player has rejected Premier League offer
As reported by MARCA, Ceballos is convinced he is on the right path and feels strong enough to turn his back on important offers that have been coming his way in recent days, especially from the Premier League.
It is safe to say that Ceballos is in the middle of a good run of form at this point of time. So much so that he might have even established himself as a starter in Carlo Ancelotti’s side for the time being.
The important thing for him will be to maintain this form though, because Real Madrid have tremendous depth in the middle of the park. A poor performance or two, and he could find himself back warming the bench once again.
