The game between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad was always expected to be a tight one. And that proved to be the case as well, as the two sides played out a goalless draw. The 0-0 scoreline does not tell the entire story though, as there were plenty of chances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to win this match.
Unfortunately, an inspired Alex Remiro in goal for Real Sociedad and some questionable finishing from the Real Madrid players meant that Los Blancos could only take a point away from a match that they completely dominated.
Of course, Real Sociedad had a few chances as well, but could not find the back of the net either. It was as entertaining as a goalless draw gets and yet, a frustrating night for Real Madrid fans, who saw their side fall five points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race. Xavi’s side had won 1-0 against Girona this weekend.
Of course, that is bad news for Real Madrid but there is still a long way to go in the title race and we are not even halfway into the league season. Ancelotti does not seem to be losing hope by any means, although he recognises that the team need to get going.
Real Madrid boss comments on Barcelona’s 5-point lead in La Liga title race
As reported by MARCA, Ancelotti said:
"“We are five points behind, we have to run. Barcelona are doing very well, but there is a lot left. January has been doubtful, but the team has grown and will start to improve.”"
It is safe to say that it has been some difficult weeks for Real Madrid after the World Cup break. But to be fair, their results over the past few games had been decent and this was not a bad performance by any stretch of the imagination either, even though they could not find the final touch.
One also cannot overlook the injuries that this team has been dealing with in recent times and the hope is that they will improve significantly when everybody is available for selection.
