Real Madrid have made a brave decision by not making any additions to their ranks in January. That was always believed to be the plan but after seeing the team struggle with both form and fitness for weeks, perhaps that should have been reconsidered. Carlo Ancelotti’s side had made a flying start to the campaign but fatigue and injuries seem to have taken its toll on what is a pretty thin squad in most positions.
As a result, they lost out in the Spanish Super Cup to Barcelona and have fallen five points behind Xavi’s side in the La Liga title race, following the goalless draw against Real Sociedad.
Even though Real Madrid have not made any signings this January, it is quite clear that reinforcements are needed in the summer. And one position where it is required more than most is striker.
Karim Benzema is 35 years of age, and even though he is still delivering on the pitch, he has had his struggles with injuries. Mariano Diaz is expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires and has barely featured. On the other hand, could Real Madrid have their eyes on a striker from Arsenal?
Real Madrid are interested in signing key Arsenal star
As reported by El Nacional, Gabriel Jesus has attracted the attention of Real Madrid. The Brazilian striker is seen as a great successor for Benzema.
Jesus might be out injured right now, but he was one of the key players in turning Arsenal’s fortunes around and transforming them into a winning machine early on in the season.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 6 assists in 14 Premier League appearances this season.
Someone like Jesus could be a great addition for Real Madrid. It is believed that Los Blancos had thought about making a transfer move for him in the summer as well, but did not due to a lack of non-EU spots at that time.
