Rumours have linked Real Madrid with some of the biggest talents in world football over the past several months. Yet, the club have not made a single addition to their squad in January, despite the struggles that Carlo Ancelotti’s team have faced with form and fitness, falling five points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race following their goalless draw against Real Sociedad.
It is believed that Real Madrid are waiting for the summer transfer window before making any moves. But unfortunately, that has allowed other clubs to swoop in and sign players that Los Blancos were believed to be interested in.
One area that is a problem for Real Madrid right now is full-back. Thus, it was no surprise that they were believed to be keeping an eye on Joao Cancelo, who up until a few months ago, was considered as one of the best full-backs on the planet.
But as reported by The Athletic, Cancelo is set to join Bayern Munich on loan. The deal is likely to include a buy option.
Real Madrid target is close to joining Bayern Munich
It is incredible how quickly the situation of Cancelo has changed at Manchester City. Just a few months back, he was considered as an undroppable player in Pep Guardiola’s team.
Cancelo did struggle for game time after the World Cup break though, and is now set to complete a loan exit to Bayern Munich.
Cancelo also becomes the second full-back target that Real Madrid have missed out on over the last few days after Malo Gusto joined Chelsea. The likes of Pedro Porro and Ivan Fresneda are believed to be close to moves as well.
Thus, the situation is far from ideal but it was always believed that Real Madrid would not be making any additions this month. Whether it was the right decision or not, we will know at the end of the season.
