Real Madrid and Liverpool might have contested the UEFA Champions League final last season, but both teams are going through a bit of a rough patch this time. For Jurgen Klopp’s side, it is worse, as they sit 9th in the Premier League table. On the other hand, while Los Blancos might be second in La Liga, they have not looked anywhere near their best for a while now.

The two teams are set to face each other once again in Europe, this time around in the last 16 of the Champions League. And it will be very interesting to see how that tie goes, considering the form that they have been in lately.

Liverpool seem to have been handed a blow ahead of it though, as it looks like Ibrahima Konate could potentially end up missing the first leg.

As tweeted out by Paul Joyce, Konate is facing upto three weeks out with a hamstring injury. The French defender will miss games against Wolves, Everton, Newcastle United and potentially Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Despite being very highly rated, Konate has struggled to establish himself at Liverpool, largely due to his injury issues.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 10 appearances and played 820 minutes of football till now this season.

Of course, Real Madrid have had their own headaches with injury problems as well and several key players have spent time out on the sidelines this season already. And with three weeks still to go before that first leg against Liverpool, one can only hope that Los Blancos will have a full strength squad, or at least close to it, available by then.

No matter what happens though, one would have to consider Real Madrid as the favourites going into the tie, whether Konate is available for the first leg or not.
