Real Madrid seem to be stuck in a never-ending injury cycle right now. Players keep picking up blows, and it is hard to remember the last time when Carlo Ancelotti had anything close to a full-strength squad to pick his starting XI from. Considering all the hurdles they have faced this season, it must be said that they have done a decent job.
The club are in the semi finals of the Copa del Rey and have made the knockout stages of the Champions League. They might be trailing Barcelona by five points in the La Liga title race, but there is still a long way to go and that can be overturned if Ancelotti’s side rediscover their best form.
A number of players are struggling to stay fit though, and it should come as no surprise that the name of Eden Hazard is on that list.
It looks like the Belgian has picked up another problem recently. As reported by The Athletic, Hazard will be out for two weeks after suffering a knee injury.
Real Madrid star suffers injury and ruled out for two weeks
Hazard’s injury should not come as a major disruption to Ancelotti’s plans though, as the Belgian has pretty much lost his place in rotation this season as well.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Hazard has made 7 appearances this season, scoring and assisting once each, while playing 296 minutes of football in total.
His last appearance in La Liga came against Mallorca, back in September. That is not what you expect from Real Madrid’s record signing. And yet, that has been Hazard’s story at Santiago Bernabeu.
He came amidst a lot of expectations but has not been able to deliver on any of them. One injury after another have meant that he has never gotten a real run in the Royal White jersey, and at this stage, it looks like he is no longer capable of his best anymore. Now, the expectations are that he will leave in the summer.
