After losing the Spanish Super Cup final and falling 8 points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, it is safe to say that the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup has taken extra importance for Real Madrid. Not only is it silverware but winning it also might give the team a much needed boost, as they seem to be struggling for form at this point of time. This is their chance to play their way into some. They will take on Al Ahly in the semi-final.

Unfortunately, Los Blancos are not heading to the Club World Cup in the best shape either. They lost their last match against Mallorca, in what was an uninspiring display from Carlo Ancelotti’s side. On top of that, they will have some key players missing as well.

Four key Real Madrid stars in the form of Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy are not part of the team’s Club World Cup squad, as they are struggling with injuries right now. All of them could have had starting roles if they were present. Eden Hazard and Lucas Vazquez are out injured as well, but they have not featured much this season.

As put out by Real Madrid on Twitter, this is their squad for the Club World Cup:

It is safe to say that Real Madrid do not have their strongest squad available going to the Club World Cup.

Despite that, one would have to consider Real Madrid as the heavy favourites to win the competition.

Los Blancos face Al Ahly in the semis. And if they can make it through that, then they will face either Flamengo or Al-Hilal in the final of the competition. Let’s see how things turn out and hopefully, Real Madrid will add another Club World Cup to their cabinet.
