There is expected to be an intense transfer race to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer. Some of the biggest clubs in Europe have been linked with the Englishman in recent times, with one of them being Real Madrid. Unsurprisingly, it is believed that it could take a transfer fee close to €150 million to make the move happen.

That should not come as a major surprise either, considering that it was just recently that Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez for a transfer fee around €121 million. Bellingham does certainly seem to be ahead of the Argentine World Cup winner in terms of development and experience in top level European football at this stage.

Real Madrid will face some tough competition for his signature though, with clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, all being linked with a move for Bellingham.

And as reported by The Athletic, Real Madrid have identified Bellingham as a priority signing. However, at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Premier League is considered as the Borussia Dortmund midfielder’s most likely destination. Los Blancos are believed to be becoming resigned to the fact that the Premier League’s financial muscle is almost impossible to defeat.

As this January transfer window proved, the Premier League is way ahead of every other league in the world, when it comes to the financial side of the game.

Thus, it feels like multiple Premier League clubs might not have a problem shelling out a blockbuster transfer fee or offering big wages, in order to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Of course, it all could come down to Bellingham and what he wants to do. On one hand, nobody can deny the pull and aura of Real Madrid. But on the other hand, a return to England would make a lot of sense for the midfielder as well.

Let’s see what the future holds, but it looks like Real Madrid might not be the favourites in the race to sign Bellingham, as many had first believed.
