Real Madrid did not make any additions to their squad in the January transfer window, to the worry many fans. The squad depth has seemed extremely thin in recent times, especially with the long list of injuries that the club are facing right now. As a result, some signings would have been nice. Los Blancos do seem to have reached an agreement to bring back Fran Garcia in the summer from Rayo Vallecano though.

Garcia came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but was not able to nail down his place in the senior side. He has enjoyed a lot more success since joining Rayo Vallecano though and earned himself a move back to Santiago Bernabeu.

There is another player who seems to be in a pretty similar position and has also been linked with a return to Real Madrid in recent months. It is none other than Miguel Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is enjoying a standout season at Girona right now but seems to be open to the idea of making a return to Real Madrid in the future. As reported by AS, the left-back said:

"“Of course these are things that I have in my head, Madrid has always been my home and thanks to the club, I am this player now. I am clear that we have to continue doing things well in Girona and in summer we will see. In football you never know what’s going to happen. Returning to Madrid, home, would be very nice, but this means having a great season here, as is already being done and having good numbers.”"

Similar to Garcia, Gutierrez was not able to make a real mark in the senior team at Real Madrid. But he has found his footing since leaving Santiago Bernabeu.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Gutierrez has made 21 appearances for Girona this season, providing 3 assists.

He is already a nailed on starter for Girona but it looks like the idea of a return to Real Madrid does hold some interest for Gutierrez.

Of course, with Real Madrid already agreeing a deal for Garcia, it is hard to see them making a move for Gutierrez as well. Stranger things have happened in football though and let’s see what the future holds.
