Some surprising rumours broke out earlier today as it was suggested that Carlo Ancelotti had verbally agreed to leave Real Madrid and become the Brazil national team’s head coach from July of this year. The Selecao are without a manager at the moment, after Tite left, following what was another disappointing World Cup campaign for the 5-time champions.
On paper, it is easy to see why Ancelotti becoming the Brazil manager would makes sense. He already knows key players like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Casemiro very well. And the Selecao need a proven winner, having not tasted World Cup glory since 2002.
On the other hand, it would make sense for Ancelotti as well. His Real Madrid side are struggling at the moment and if they finish trophyless this season, there is a good chance that he could be shown the exit door anyway. Also, the Italian has achieved everything at the club level but never managed an international team.
But, it looks like the rumours of him verbally agreeing to take the Brazil job from July are not accurate. As reported by GOAL, Ancelotti said in a press conference:
"“I don’t know anything about this, I don’t even know what they reported in Brazil. I’m Real Madrid coach, my contract is until June 2024.”"
Real Madrid manager breaks silence on Brazil job rumour
Thus, it is clear that nothing has been agreed between Ancelotti and Brazil. The Italian manager’s focus remains on Real Madrid.
Of course, that does not mean that he could not end up becoming Brazil manager in the future. Considering how many rumours there have been about the matter over the past few months, it does feel like there has to be something to the story.
Let’s see what the future holds. For the time being, Ancelotti is the Real Madrid manager though. And the fans must be hoping that he is able to turn their poor run of form around, and guide the team to some silverware, just like he did last season.
