Real Madrid might have come into the Club World Cup in poor form, but that did not stop them from winning the tournament. Carlo Ancelotti’s side did leave it much tighter than was anticipated, but ultimately, a 5-3 win over Al-Hilal was enough to lift another piece of silverware for Los Blancos. Vinicius Jr, Fede Valverde and Karim Benzema were on the scoresheet.
Real Madrid were expected to win the Club World Cup and this is not anywhere close to the most important tournament of the club’s season. But, one would be hoping that the win gives the team a much needed boost.
Real Madrid have been struggling for form and results in recent times. That saw them fall eight points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race and also lose convincingly in the final of the Spanish Super Cup to Xavi’s side.
Real Madrid are still in all three major competitions though and the hope is that they will be compete for all of them. Ancelotti certainly seems to be confident in his team. As reported by MARCA, the Italian manager said after the Club World Cup triumph:
"“We are improving and this title is going to give us a boost to fight for everything that remains, which we are going to do. Many players like Benzema are coming back, Militao is already there, everyone is improving, although there have been some failures behind.”"
Real Madrid boss sends strong message after Los Blancos’ Club World Cup win
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are able to turn their season around after returning from the Club World Cup. It is safe to say that there will be more difficult tests ahead than Al Ahly and Al-Hilal.
At the same time though, when on top form, we have seen Real Madrid look almost unstoppable. That was the case early on in this very season, when Ancelotti’s side had not lost a single match for quite some time.
Things change very quickly in football. And Real Madrid fans will be hoping that the Club World Cup triumph proves to be the turning point of their campaign.
