Real Madrid might need to rebuild their midfield in the near future. Luka Modric has struggled for his best form after the World Cup break and there are even some question marks over his future at the club beyond this season. On the other hand, there have been suggestions that Toni Kroos could hang up his boots after this campaign and he is yet to extend his contract either.
Jude Bellingham has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and is believed to be the Spanish giants’ priority for the upcoming summer transfer window. There is another English midfielder though, who could be a good addition to this team.
Real Madrid fans will know very well what Mason Mount is capable of. He might be going through a bad run of form, but there is no question about his quality. The Chelsea star scored against Los Blancos in both ties between the two teams in the UEFA Champions League over the past couple of years.
Mount’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge is surprisingly in doubt though, with him yet to sign a contract extension with Chelsea. And that might open up an opportunity for Real Madrid next summer.
Real Madrid must try to sign Chelsea star next summer with his future in doubt
Mount has received a lot of criticism for his performances this season. But one cannot forget that he won the Chelsea Player of the Year award in the past two campaigns.
Also, with Mount’s contract set to run out in the summer of 2024, and him going through a rough patch of form, it is very possible that he could be available for a bargain transfer fee. If that is the case, Real Madrid should definitely consider a move.
Mount is a player who remains underrated for some reason. He brings a lot on the ball, as goals against teams like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool and a Champions League-winning assist vs Manchester City prove. But his work off the ball is something that any manager would like to have in his team as well.
