Real Madrid might have won the Club World Cup, but it was not a spectacular performance from them in the final by any stretch of imagination. Of course, the team did very well going forward, as they scored five goals. Fede Valverde and Vinicius Jr managed a brace each, while Karim Benzema also found the back of the net. On the other hand though, Los Blancos’ defending left a lot to be desired, as they gave away three goals on the night.

On another day, they could have lost against Al-Hilal. And it is safe to say that not many people would have expected this game to be so tight despite scoring five goals.

One player who faced a lot of criticism for his performance on the day is Andriy Lunin. In goal with Thibaut Courtois absent due to injury, the young goalkeeper was not able to make the most of this opportunity.

In fact, Al-Hilal scored from all three of their shots on target against Real Madrid on the day. Unsurprisingly, questions were raised about Lunin after the game and fans on social media did not seem pleased with his performance.

Following Lunin’s performance in the Club World Cup final, it is not hard to understand why there are question marks over his long-term future at Santiago Bernabeu. He is expected to be on his way out in the summer.

Of course, Lunin was not the only one who had a bad day at the office in the Club World Cup final. There were others at the back who did not cover themselves in glory either.

Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba did not have great games either. And Eduardo Camavinga looked average at best on this occasion, even though he has done well at left-back lately.
