Real Madrid might have made no additions to their squad in the January transfer window, to the worry of many fans, but they are already getting things done for the summer. One of the problem areas for the team in recent times has been full-back, on both sides of the pitch. The likes of Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy have all dealt with injury problems.

And even when they are on the pitch, questions have been raised about their performance levels. Real Madrid are set to add some competition at left-back though, by bringing in one of their former players.

Fran Garcia never got a proper chance at Real Madrid and made only one senior appearance for the club before moving to Rayo Vallecano. There, he has had a much better time though, and established himself as one of the best left-backs in La Liga.

As tweeted out by the highly reliable Fabrizio Romano, Garcia will return to Real Madrid in the summer. Documents are ready between the two clubs, as Los Blancos will trigger the buy back clause of €10 million but will only pay €5 million as a 50% sell-on clause was included. The Spaniard will sign a five-year deal.

Someone like Garcia is not a glamourous addition to the team. But he is certainly someone who can do a job for Real Madrid.

A lot of questions have been raised about Mendy’s performances this season. He has had injury problems as well. On the other hand, David Alaba has acted as cover there, but he is already the starting centre-back anyway.

Eduardo Camavinga has emerged as an unexpected option at left-back and done a good job whenever he has played there. But his long-term future lies in the middle of the park.
