For a team who are the defending Champions League and La Liga holders, Real Madrid certainly do have plenty of gaps in their squad. It will be very interesting to see how well they are able to fill those holes over the coming transfer windows. We have seen this team struggle with a lack of options in this campaign already.
One area where they seem particularly weak is right-back. Dani Carvajal is a club legend without a shadow of a doubt and has been a big part of this team’s success over the years. In recent times, there have been some question marks over both his form and fitness though. On the other hand, Lucas Vazquez is not a natural in that position. And Alvaro Odriozola has barely featured, and is expected to leave in the summer.
Thus, it is pretty clear that Real Madrid need to strengthen their options at right-back in the near future. And it appears that they have a Manchester United player in their sights to do just that.
As reported by AS, Diogo Dalot still has not renewed his contract with Manchester United and Real Madrid are attentive of the situation. The search for a right-back by Los Blancos inevitably leads to the Portuguese star.
Real Madrid interested in Manchester United first-team starter
During the time of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager, Dalot barely featured at Manchester United and was expected to leave. Things have changed drastically since the Norwegian’s exit though.
Dalot is currently the undisputed starter at right-back for Manchester United under the management of Erik ten Hag. And he is stringing together a great season at Old Trafford.
Thus, it is not hard to see why Real Madrid might hold an interest in Dalot, when it comes to solving their problems at right-back for the long-term. His current deal with Manchester United runs out in the summer of 2024.
