Real Madrid’s problems this season seem to have no end in sight. There has rarely been an occasion when Carlo Ancelotti has had anything resembling a full strength squad to pick his starting XI from. And it looks like their troubles will continue as well as we enter the business end of the campaign.
Real Madrid are trailing Barcelona by eight points in the La Liga title race and will need to win vs Osasuna, just to keep within touching distance of Xavi’s side. At the same time though, it is hard not to have an eye on the upcoming Champions League game in midweek as well.
Real Madrid will face Liverpool in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie, set to be played at Anfield. It is safe to say that it is going to be a very important game for both sides, who contested the final last season.
Several reports have suggested though, that Toni Kroos is a major doubt for the game against Liverpool. He is believed to be suffering from an illness, that he still has not fully recovered from.
Real Madrid superstar could miss Champions League first leg vs Liverpool
It goes without saying that Kroos is a key player for Real Madrid, especially in these big games, where he has a wealth of experience. Thus, if he does end up missing the match at Anfield, it would be a major blow for Ancelotti’s side.
Interestingly, Kroos has not been included in the squad that will take on Osasuna this weekend. Now, it remains to be seen whether he recovers in time to face Liverpool.
It must be pointed out that Liverpool have been in poor form as of late, and thus, this might be a great time for Real Madrid to travel to Anfield.
