Chelsea have been on a roll when it comes to the transfer market. Over the past couple of windows, they have been successful in adding Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana, Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid, and several others. And recently, it looked like they had set their sights on Real Madrid’s number one target for next summer, Jude Bellingham, as well.
It is not hard to understand why Chelsea might be interested in Bellingham. The club could make several changes in the middle of the park moving forward. Jorginho left for Arsenal in January and the long-term futures of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are uncertain.
There is a good possibility that Chelsea might miss out on Champions League football next season though. As things stand, they are 10th in the Premier League.
As reported by Football Insider, Chelsea have expressed interest in securing the signature of Bellingham. However, sources say that the news has been met with a lukewarm reaction from the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who is not currently enthused by the prospect of a move to Stamford Bridge.
Real Madrid target currently uninterested in move to Chelsea
It is safe to say that Chelsea find themselves in quite a bit of trouble right now. The club’s new owners made the controversial decision of replacing Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter early on in the season. And it has not worked out.
If they fail to qualify for the Champions League, it would make it even more difficult for Chelsea to compete in the race for Bellingham’s signature.
They are not Real Madrid’s only competition in the Bellingham race though. The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are also believed to be keeping an eye on the situation.
