Real Madrid will make the trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. That might be an intimidating away fixture for most players, but with the experience that some of Los Blancos’ stars have, it is safe to say that it is expected to be a close game.

Neither Real Madrid nor Liverpool have been in great form this season but both of them got wins at the weekend. Los Blancos left it late against Osasuna. On the other hand, Liverpool were impressive in their 2-0 away win vs Newcastle United.

They are the only visiting team to win at St James’ Park in the Premier League this season. Thus, that must be a confidence booster for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

On the other hand, Real Madrid have a couple of fitness concerns going into the match against Liverpool. As tweeted out by Miguel Angel Diaz, today neither Toni Kroos nor Aurelien Tchouameni jumped onto the training pitch at the same time as their teammates.

Thus, it looks like both Kroos and Tchouameni are doubts ahead of the trip to Anfield. Both of them missed the weekend game against Osasuna as well.

On the other hand, Karim Benzema’s situation is up in the air as well. Some recent rumours have suggested though that the Frenchman could recover in time to be involved in the match against Liverpool. Let’s see how things transpire.

This Real Madrid team have been nowhere near their best form in recent times and if they end up missing multiple key players against Liverpool, then it might be a big ask of them to come home with a result from the first leg at Anfield.
