Real Madrid have a lot of question marks hanging over their head regarding the availability of players heading into the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Liverpool. The situation is not ideal and it is uncertain whether the likes of Karim Benzema, Aurelien Tchouameni and Toni Kroos will be involved on the day or not, having missed the weekend match against Osasuna.

Of course, all three are key players in Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Thus, fans will be hoping that they are able to recover from their respective issues in time to play a part at Anfield.

One player who looks certain to be involved on the day is Dani Carvajal. The Real Madrid veteran has faced his issues with form and fitness this season, but Ancelotti has confirmed that he will take to the pitch against Liverpool in midweek.

As reported by Marca (via Football Espana), Ancelotti said in a post match interview:

"“Carvajal is going to play at Anfield.”"

Carvajal did not start the game against Osasuna at the weekend, with Nacho Fernandez taking his place at right-back. But it looks like the 31-year-old will be back in the line up against Liverpool.

Now, it is worth pointing out that Carvajal has not been at his best this season. On the contrary, most fans believe that it is time for the club to start looking for his long-term successor at right-back.

At 31 years of age, he looks to be past his best. And his struggles to remain fit in recent years have not made things any easier for the Spaniard.

At the same time though, one cannot overlook his experience or his ability to deliver in the big games. Thus, do not be surprised if Carvajal turns back the clock against Liverpool and produces a world-class performance.
