Real Madrid fans must have been confident going into the match against Liverpool, considering the form that the Reds have been in this season. But not even the most optimistic of them could have hoped to come out of Anfield with a 5-2 victory over Jurgen Klopp’s side. It was a historic night for Los Blancos to say the least.
Early on though, it was looking like nothing was going right for Real Madrid. They conceded twice within the first 15 minutes and Liverpool were playing them off the pitch.
But then a moment of individual brilliance from Vinicius Junior turned the game around. And there was no stopping Real Madrid after that. They would equalise before half-time, thanks to an error from Alisson. And after the break, Eder Militao completed the turnaround and gave Los Blancos the lead, before Karim Benzema scored twice.
Thus, by the end of the game, Liverpool were well defeated. And the fans at Anfield saved some special applause for two of Real Madrid’s players when they were substituted off.
Liverpool fans at Anfield applauded two Real Madrid stars
As reported by talkSPORT, a number of Liverpool fans applauded Luka Modric and Benzema. They were substituted by manager Carlo Ancelotti in the 87th minute, and the Anfield faithful gave them a classy reception.
It was a great show of sportsmanship from the Liverpool fans. And a reception that the two will surely appreciate.
Both Benzema and Modric were at the top of their games on the night, showing why the club must still hold on to them.
The Croatian midfield maestro ran things from the middle of the park, and provided the assist for Militao’s goal. On the other hand, Benzema looked off the pace early on but got a brace in the second half to put the game, and perhaps the tie, beyond Liverpool.
