Barcelona have improved significantly this season and currently lead the La Liga table by 8 points over Real Madrid, after 22 games have been played. Thus, Xavi’s side are the favourites to lift the league title, unless something unexpected happens over the last few months of the campaign. Overall, the Catalan giants must be very happy with how things have turned out.

On the other hand, it has been a bit of a surprise how Real Madrid’s season has turned out in the league. For them, the Champions League will be the big target though, as Carlo Ancelotti’s side look to repeat in Europe.

In that respect, Barcelona disappointed massively, as they were knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage itself. Thus, it is clear that there is room for improvement.

With that in sight, it looks like the club are already eyeing players that they can sign in the future. And one of them is someone Real Madrid let go just last summer.

Barcelona in talks to sign former Real Madrid player

As reported by AS, Xavi loves Takefusa Kubo and would like to have him in his squad. Barcelona have consulted the player’s agent about his contractual situation at Real Sociedad and the links he still maintains with Real Madrid to assess whether it would be feasible to move forward.

Real Madrid are believed to have a right of first refusal as well as a 50% sell-on clause in Kubo’s deal. Thus, if Barcelona did make a move for the Japanese international, the ball would pretty much be in Los Blancos’ court.

Kubo is enjoying a great season at Real Sociedad and has established himself as a key player for them. They sit at third in the La Liga table, overdelivering on all expectations.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Kubo has scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists in 26 appearances for Real Sociedad this season.
